I love the quote you shared by Oliver Burkeman - this resonated -... but how to decide most wisely what not to do, and how to feel at peace about not doing it".

Brilliant quote, right? 💛✨

I have a tendancy to rush whether or not it is needed, too. Time to work on that!

Ah, the rushing even when it’s not warranted. Yup! 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’m trying to work on that too!

(pantpantpantpant) Yes, the monkey brain needs to be handed a banana and told to sit over there and eat it .... slowly. And from what I understood from your description of your day, you don't hold a job outside the home. You know ... the kind where there's an ogre boss cracking a whip and also looking at the clock. Whew! At least you have full control over your activities without a tyrant on your back. You've got a good plan there in learning what needs to get done and what's not. Be kind to yourself. Lists have helped me and my rule was that if I accomplish half the things on the list, I did well. We always overbook ourselves, don't we! Are your kids old enough to walk to school? Are the schools far away and involve crossing dangerous traffic? You might consider a little "wilding" of your children and teach them how to get themselves to school safely. I do know there are lots of dangers out there and schools are all over the place. But ... and it's a big but ... your kids taking charge of their school attendance and navigation could relieve you of that task. Just a suggestion. Okay, I'll step down from my old lady soapbox. Cheers!

Hi Sue! Unfortunately, where we live it is too far to walk and there is no school bus system in our area. but I appreciate your suggestion! 😊

Yes, lists definitely help and just getting everything onto paper and seeing what needs doing and what can wait ✨

Yeah, I figured maybe your schools were out of reach for little legs, but ... oh well. It was a good story, though, which I enjoyed reading. Thank you.

Oh I love this Mackenzie and totally relate to that feeling of trying to do all of the things in the limited time between drop off and pick up. It's something I think about a lot and my body/mind also does not respond well to being rushed, I really dislike the feeling. I try to remember that the actual enjoyment and fullness comes from being present in the experience rather than worrying about fitting it all in. It will get done in some shape or form (or not and that's ok too). And I love the quote reframing the ever-present 'to-do' list to the 'what to not do' list...! xx

It’s so crazy that you wrote this! I’ve been drafting my October and it’s so similar about feeling that rush and needing to slow down! Maybe it’s the time of year after school being in session and everything it’s coming to that point of absolute exhaustion and realizing we need to enjoy and not be so lost in our to-dos! I love that quote at the end—I will be writing that one down as a reminder.

As always thank you for a lovely morning read! Always look forward to your letters 🤍

Yup, it seems like there is this push to rush and get all the things done, but what we really need is a moment to just sit down and catch our breath. We just need a bit of slow to our day, don’t we? 💗

Thank you Jennifer! I enjoy your posts as well 🤗

That quote is pure gold - I love that book! 💜

I'm with you on this Mackenzie, especially the part around hating being late. The thought of being late makes me squirm and I hate it when other people are late too haha.

Thanks for a great read ☺️

Ahhh, being late drives me crazy! 😜 I don’t know why I am wired that way, lol. Yes, that book so so good 😊

I recognize the feeling and try to change habits to avoid those rushing mornings.

Yes, those hectic mornings really get us, don’t they? ✨

Love this, it was life changing magic for me to realise that “rushing” doesn’t even actually help 😂

You’re so right Percy, rushing doesn’t help! Why are we humans the way we are? 😆

We all feel the urge to get everything done and as quickly as possible but as you say it only makes us feel in a constant rush to arrive somewhere...a place we seem to never managed to reach. Slowing down really helps calming the hurried mind...and personally makes me feel less " confused". It's true, we can get burnt out from every day life, to find our right pace is a never ending journey. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Urgh, yes! I can so relate to all you’ve written. I wrote about all the things I love about Autumn in my last letter here, then as I dashed around like ‘a headless chicken’ trying to achieve the impossible before night fell, I suddenly thought, this is not what I love! So this week I’m writing about the downside, the things that bug me about the dark months, which for me too is the constant watching of the clock, trying to fathom how to work faster when the energy levels are utterly depleted...

I hope you get to slow down Mackenzie, it’s not easy but it is possible! 🍂
