I like cooking, BUT I love baking! There's something soothing about the process of getting all the ingredients measured and lined up and following the step-by-step process of a recipe.

I am with you! Baking makes me happy too. I've no desire to do anything complicated or fancy, I'm not fussed about how beautiful it turns out, I just really enjoy baking food that is tasty to eat. My favourites are brownies, choc chip cookies, shortbread biscuits and lemon drizzle cake. Mmm, think I might make cake soon!

This is lovely. The problem I find is that I am quite a ‘throw it in’ (I like to think intuitive...!) cook which can be great when creating a flavoursome dish but doesn’t necessarily work when baking which I think requires a more precise approach...! But I love the idea of homemade cakes especially those that are like love notes to friends and family. Would love to know if you recommend any simple recipes that don’t require too much accuracy...

Thank you Lyndsay 😊 Intuitive cooking is fun! Sometimes I will put my own spin on a recipe and make it something special for my family.

If you google “The Minimalist Baker” she has lots of recipes that utilize very few ingredients that you could probably make it a bit more your own! 🤗

My cooking class in 7th grade included lots of baking. My favorite was the popovers, a strange little concoction of flour baking soda and whatnot that produced this pastry that would "explode" while baking, producing this yummy, silly-looking platform for butter, jam or honey. My mother got such a kick out of popovers, she asked me to bake them often. I don't bake anymore, mainly because I don't need the calories, but also because we have a Dutch bakery in town that is legendary. Mercy! And then there is the frightful WHOMP! sound the gas oven makes when it turns on to keep the heat up. I thought it was because the stove was old, but when we replaced it, the new oven did the same thing.

I’ve never made popovers! I will add them to my list to try and make 😊✨

Baking takes me away from the pain I’m always in. The heat of the kitchen, the smells and the taste. They all work together to distract for a while.
