Hello Friends! I thought I would share some writerly bits and bobs with you before we adjourn for Christmas.
Also, don't these cookies look amazing? I made Double Chocolate Chip Cookies with crushed candy canes on top. Delish!
I have enjoyed writing here on Substack and am thankful for the opportunity to write for all of you and I appreciate your support. Every like, every heart, every comment, every restack, every recommendation. Thank you, thank you.
My favorite post I wrote this year was about my grandmother which was shared in conjunction with International Women's Day back in March. My grandmother was such a strong influence in my life, and she was truly the best grandmother a girl could ask for. I miss her so much and one day, I hope to be just as good of a grandmother as she was.
a grandmother's love
A lovely group of women who I will tag down below, had a beautiful invitation to share some heartfelt feminine words in honor of International Women's Day. A post many people resonated with is one I wrote about not being raring to go back in January. I know the new year brings out the grand resolutions and to-do lists and all the like, but the truth of the matter is, is that January 1st is in the middle of winter. Sometimes we need to finish our burrowing season before we come up for air and start figuring out how the year is going to pan out. I admire those who already have the next 365 days mapped out, you are ready to go! But if you are a bit more of the slow and steady type, this post might be for you.

If you are looking for a good read over the next few weeks, I wrote about some non-fiction books that I really enjoyed that might be of interest to you. I am currently reading The Opt-Out Family: How to Give Your Kids What Technology Can't by Erin Loechner. It is really good so far!

Speaking of technology...
In November, I deleted my Twitter/X account. This was something I had been contemplating for several months but kept hemming and hawing about it. I had been on this platform for 13 years and in the beginning, it was fun, especially when I used to know many other bloggers at the time in the personal finance sector. But even before the pandemic, the signs were on the wall that the platform's trajectory wasn't the same and I was tired of all the time that I was spending on there. Many of the people I used to have conversations with, left the platform years ago. I am not interested in what's trending and I really just wanted my time back.
And now, I do.
Also, just as a sidenote: Twitter/X deactivates your account for 30 days before they actually permanently delete it in case you are thinking about doing the same.
This year has been one of ups and downs as calendar years tend to be. I am looking forward to some downtime with my family and with that in mind, this will be my last post for 2024. I will also be taking a break from Notes, so if you usually see me sharing your post and I don't this time around, it's simply because I will be offline.
Thanks again for your support and I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
See you in 2025!
Merry Christmas, Mackenzie, and enjoy your time off from Substack. Whew! It does weight heavy sometimes, doesn't it? And you're right. Winter is a time for rest. The natural world takes a nap. Why not humans? All those plants and animals are rejuvenating and recharging, and will pop back up when the sun shines again. That's why it's called Spring!
Thank you for sharing your lovely, reflective writings with us this year 🙏🌿
