I don't remember the temperature that day or what I was wearing or even if I was sat on the sofa or hunkered over the kitchen table, but on the 2nd of November of 2022, I hit publish on my first full length post on Substack. Motherhood is Lonely went out into the Substack universe and hence began my journey of what I call "from the heart" writing.
motherhood is lonely
In the early days of motherhood, bleary-eyed from lack of sleep, awash in spit-up, and unable to form sentences with more than four words, I was looking for some sort of port in the storm. The newborn life is one of intense emotions: a fierce love for this precious life that you have brought into this world but the lows, dear God the lows, immersed in h…
I have been writing on the 'ol interwebs for well over a decade, and I have to say that writing here on Substack has truly been a breath of fresh air. It feels like a safe space to be oneself and articulate precisely the depth of what I always wish to convey. I can share my heart, my vulnerabilities, and my passion for encouraging others here and it feels warm and inviting.
I can say that my path on here would not be what it is and has become without the generosity of you, dear readers. Your likes and comments and restacks and just general comradery would not have made what The Lovely Road is today. Your support has gotten me through some difficult times, and I wish I could give each one of you a giant hug.
to be creative or not to be creative
It seems an age-old adage but when you are young, doesn't it seem like you can be anything you wanted? You could be a fairy tale princess who is also a dentist for plushy dinosaurs or an astronaut who puts on singing performances on Jupiter. That freedom, that magic, to believe you could really and truly do anything, well that was some kind of enchantme…
My plans for The Lovely Road are still the same as when I started: I write to be an encouragement to others and to help one feel less alone. You don't have to take life's paths by yourself or be in miasma of your own making. If you need some words to get you through, I can be those words for you.
Sending love and encouragement and warmth to wherever you are in the world.
And from the bottom of my heart, thank you again for taking this journey with me. I appreciate you more that you know.
xx Mackenzie
