Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing well 😊
If you are new to this space, welcome! Saturday Loves is a series here on The Lovely Road where I will share other writers' Substack newsletters that I recently read and enjoyed and give them a creative "shout-out" as well as sharing what I have been interested in on a personal level outside of Substack.
In my offline world...
What I've been celebrating:
May has been a busy month! We celebrated my birthday, Mother's Day, my eldest daughter's birthday, my eldest daughter's graduation from middle school, and all of the end-of-the-school-year busyness that goes along with your children finishing the term before summer break. Whew! It is hard to believe that the month of June is right around the corner, but I am looking forward to a summer of fun with my girls 🥰
What I've been reading:
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. Oh, my word, this book was so good! I am probably the last person on earth to read this novel, but it was so worth the wait. I am happy that I was able to check this book out from my local library, read it, and then return it so that someone else can get joy out of Patchett's words. This little tidbit from Tom Lake stuck with me:
"There is no explaining this simple truth about life: you will forget much of it. The painful things you were certain you'd never be able to let go? Now you're not entirely sure when they happened, while the thrilling parts, the heart-stopping joys, splintered and scattered and became something else. Memories are then replaced by different joys and larger sorrows, and unbelievably, those things get knocked aside as well..."
What I have been listening to:
The Mel Robbins podcast. This particular episode, How to Balance Your Hormones: What Your Doctor Isn't Telling You About Menopause, was so interesting! For what it’s worth, I am not in menopause but as someone who has been feeling lately that they might be in the perimenopause phase, I found this episode highly enlightening. Even if this subject matter doesn't apply to you personally, maybe someone in your life for whom this topic is relevant, might enjoy this conversation.
